On the Carpet:

What do Nurses do? It’s Important!

What do Nurses do?

What a great question! At first glance, it seems too obvious to bother about, yet it’s not so easy to articulate the whole. Try it, and you’ll see! We do LOTS of things, and we each do different things for different reasons, but a summary statement that applies to us all? That’s hard! Unsurprisingly, most people outside of nursing have a poor understanding of nurses. They only know what they see, and we often do little to educate them about all that other important stuff they don’t see. It sets us back as a profession: we can do better!

In this post, Beth Hawkes, MSN provides some interesting discussions and answers:

Along with other stuff I enjoy that pays the bills (a plus!), I'm a budding nurse comic. I plan, like fake Opthomologist Rand Paul, to create my own professional organization solely so it will grant me a Doctorate. In my case, the org will be something like the AANC (American Association of Nurse Comics), and it will (trust me on this point) agree to make me the first ever DNC: Doctor of Nurse Comedy. I'll keep you posted!

Hi Jim, I AM house etc sitting thurs-Sun.

How about a TC 8p on thurs or friday at 207-361-2771? Let’s focus on your org check up thing first, OK? I’m happy to catch up personally too if we have time and please feel free to update me about other stuff via email if we don’t! Part of my self-care, slowing down, limit-setting motif!

Hope you guys are having a good or at least decent week-end.

I’m settling into my new living situ pretty well…kinda nice to be part of the family even with the commitments that seem inherent!

    Talk soon, Beth
