On the Carpet:

Lovely! Thanks for the Memories

Yet More Lovely Blushing Now… Big Red Carpet NursingThanks to thebuddhasutra for a One Lovely Blog nomination!

I must also offer a humble apology to the author at thebuddhasutra, KHALKINISED, for my much delayed response. Winter, darkness, cold, holidays, and a bit of embarrassment from all this kind attention all contributed, but of course the responsibility and blame are all mine. No disrespect intended. Please peruse their fine Blog, folks, to help me make up for it a bit. The link’s right up there at the top.

I quote from thebuddhasutra:

The One Lovely Blog Award nominations are chosen by fellow bloggers for those newer and up-and-coming bloggers. The goal is to help give recognition and also to help the new blogger to reach more viewers. It also recognizes blogs that are considered to be “lovely” by the fellow bloggers who choose them. This award recognizes bloggers who share their story or thoughts in a beautiful manner to connect with viewers and followers. In order to “accept” the award the nominated blogger must follow several guidelines:

  • Thank the person who nominated you for the award.
  • Add the One Lovely Blog logo to your post.
  • Share 7 facts or things about yourself.
  • Nominate 15 bloggers you admire and inform the nominees by commenting on their blog.”

Moving along, 7 facts about myself:

1) I grew up in a few places. One was Madbury, NH, a wedge of woods and houses for about 1000 people. We had one (very) part-time cop, no post office, no schools, no police station, and a volunteer fire department. Went to other towns for basically everything except trees. Trash pickup was a neighbor with a pickup truck. Madbury played a part in the American Revolution, supposedly bringing the gunpowder for the colonist side, explaining, so the joke goes, why they ran out (yuk yuk).

2) Before Madbury, I lived in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, PA, a kid in the seventies certain, as were all my friends, that all of humanity adored the Steelers. If was a good decade for Steeler Nation… I can remember seeing the glow of slag being dumped outside steel mills in the distance at night. In was rather hilly: our back yard looked down on the roof of the house, and I could sled out my front door, hang a left at the mailbox, and sled all the way to the end of the street. Three story drop in a quarter acre lot: hilly! We watched the fireworks downtown, too far away to hear and we didn’t look up, more across, from the backyard.

3) Before Pittsburgh, I lived briefly in my parents’ home town, Sycamore, OH – another town of 1000!

4) Before Sycamore, I lived in my town of birth, Galveston, TX. That’s right, I’m native Texan, so if you were thinking of messing with me, don’t 🙂 I have no memory of the place: we left when I was six months old. For the Texans out there, if there are any reading my stuff: I wasn’t consulted, and I was six months old. I didn’t get asked for advice on family decisions much…

5) Regardless of any argument or stats or records, folks, the Steelers are way better than the Cowboys. Fact. Ask any Steeler fan! Sorry, Texans! Truth hurts 😉

6-actually-5) OK, to be fair, I doubt number 5 really counts, strictly speaking, as “fact”. That, my friends, IS a fact, as is the idea that my sense of humor is, well, unique. Fact!

7-actually-6) (see 5) I’m running out of material…. Is it obvious?

8-actually-7) Nevertheless, I’m done: 7 facts, all about me! Phew… that’s hard!

Finally, two nominations of my own, in no meaningful order:

Nursecode

Don Charisma

HarsH ReaLiTy

[And then I hit the wall. I did the math on this fine award. As of now, including three previous such posts I’ve nominated roughly 48 blogs for One Lovely. Like it or not – I don’t – I’ve hit the wall on this gig. So much pressure picking! It’s hard for me. Hard, the picking. I remember the first time I saw a blogger mention they couldn’t accept an award. I didn’t get it. Now I do. I don’t like that I get it, it stinks, but there we are. There I am, anyway. Overwhelmed. Thankful, humbled, pleased, but still, overwhelmed. So… ]

For the rest of the nominations, I have to fall back on earlier One Lovely BLog nominations I’ve made. Maybe it’s cheating (it certainly feels like cheating), but it’s the best I can do. Here they are:

About Big Red Carpet Nurse (1750 Articles)
Along with other stuff I enjoy that pays the bills (a plus!), I'm a budding nurse comic. I plan, like fake Opthomologist Rand Paul, to create my own professional organization solely so it will grant me a Doctorate. In my case, the org will be something like the AANC (American Association of Nurse Comics), and it will (trust me on this point) agree to make me the first ever DNC: Doctor of Nurse Comedy. I'll keep you posted!

I love your comments! Please, take a moment & share.
